Purpose: To tell us how English was spread and how it mixed with other languages over time.
Tone: Formal.

The way the English has spread all over the world doesn’t mean that is an old language, in fact, what the author is trying to tell us is that the English is not as old as much of the languages are. The truth is that the English has been growing as it has been changing. Indeed, the English was not common in England and then started to grow as the country was going up.

The English is a language in which the pronunciation is very important, and works on different ways, is not the same if you pronounce the accent in one syllable than in another. The ways the English is spoken in different periods of time is very different, because it changes a lot, not only in the pronunciation of words, but also in the meaning and the way of using it. In the English, they were different types of it, such as, Elizabethan English (that was what Shakespeare used), Old English, and so on. In fact, it varies by the epochs it passes through. But for the language to survives it has to change every time, if not the language would died. Nowadays the English will continue changing by the expressions that we use and how we write.

In my opinion when the language started to be more popular was because the countries that the English was use were growing, so more people was interested to learn that language and the language started to became more a global language than just one that was speaking in a few countries. When the people started to use more this language it started to change, as all the languages did, and the language commenced to have idioms, and it started to have deformations as well on the pronunciation part as in the written part.

In my point of view, the English will continue changing, because that is the way the people is used to, many people use idioms and they create new ones, and the language will continue that way in the future, if not the language would died and no one would speak it anymore. I think the English has passed for deformations as well as other languages did, it is not the only language that have that, because the languages need to change every time, so the people would be capable to talk to each other and comprehend what they are saying.

Nowadays we can ask anybody what language does he speak? The most commonly answer would be English. In this article the author tries to explain why this language is not as pure as we think and how it was spread. The English is the most common speaking language in the world, but how did it start? It started with a Britain tribe and then the language commenced to change when the Vikings arrived and conquered England, the change was more notorious. Later more countries arrived to invade England and the language continued changing, as more people came to rule the country, they started to put new words to the old English and it kept changing. The article tells us that the English is changing over time, not only because of our fault, but also in the past many rulers tried to change the most part of it. Indeed the English is not as pure as we though, in fact it has more words that have being changed than in other languages.

Even thought that the English came from the same part doesn’t mean that it would be the same in everywhere, a clear example is in America and in England, they are different places and the same language, but they have different pronunciation in certain words.

I agree with this article and this not only happens in the English language, but also in many others, because the languages have changed over time in many places. And I think the most important thing is trying to not to change that much the language, because nowadays is difficult to learn a new language, and it would be more difficult if the language is changing every time.

In my opinion the languages changed different, because of how they were conquered, the difference is that if their rulers had another way of thinking, they would teach different words. For example it is not the same a king from Spain, that another one who came from the Vikings. And I think that the author is trying to tell us that the language shouldn’t change because it would be more difficult to understand with each others.

The way the English has been changing over time has attracted the attention of many people, in this article the author is trying to explain where does the English came from and how the English’s words are being replaced by others that words that are more usual to speak.

The English has come from the Britain and it has been developed by the time, changing how we use the words and also their meanings.

One of the facts of why the English seems to be more complex to a non-native speaker to learn is because the Modern English has been changing every period of time, more words are added and other words are erased from the language. But no matter how the English would change, it will be difficult to learn, because depends on where you live, the words have different meanings. In the West, North, South and East, have different ways of speaking the language, including the pronunciation, and the meanings of the words. And now we can say that being a non-native speaker is more complicated than to a native speaker. Even though the most of the English word will stay, in the future we won’t use the same words that we used today.

I disagree with the article, because the English it is not the most complicated language, there are more languages that we can hardly learn, not only in spelling but also in grammar. The Spanish also has many words that are changing over time, and I think it is also the same problem with the English, because the way of speaking the Spanish also depends on where do you live or where do you are from. Indeed in the Spanish vocabulary are not include some words that we use nowadays, but we can infer that some day these words would be use in the future. I think the article has certain points in which you can approve that the English is difficult, but not the most difficult. At my opinion, the English language is as difficult to learn, write, and speak, as any other language in the world, not only the Spanish, but also many others.

What should we learn, English as lingua franca or “formal” English?

Nowadays we have more opportunities to learn a second language, but which is better? The lingua franca or formal? Is there any difference between those two? Yes! For learning a new language the easier way is the lingua franca that is interacting between two people that doesn’t have the English as a mother language, so you are able to learn the same expressions and spelling, but every time the persons learn English with lingua franca the idiom starts to change, because the people commence to make modifications in certain words that feel difficult to them to pronounce. In the other way around the “formal” is with a native speaker, so you would be able to achieve a better pronunciation, grammar, and more aspects of the language. Now we can say that the easiest to learn English is the lingua franca, but that doesn’t mean that is the best way to learn a new language.
